Biophilic Design: Bringing Nature Into the Workplace

Natural light, living walls, and organic materials — how introducing nature into office environments boosts wellbeing and productivity.
The human brain evolved over millions of years in natural environments. The modern office — sealed, artificially lit, carpeted, and climate-controlled — is an extraordinarily recent invention, and our nervous systems haven't caught up. Biophilic design is the attempt to address this mismatch by reintroducing natural elements into the built environment.
Beyond the Living Wall
Living walls have become the most visible symbol of biophilic design — and often a shallow one. A green wall maintained poorly is worse than no green wall: it communicates neglect and becomes a liability rather than an asset. At KAPCHER, we approach biophilic design more holistically, considering natural light, natural materials, water features, natural ventilation, and views to the outside as interconnected elements of a coherent strategy.
